wow, so this website was definitely interesting. this is a website that at the bottom gave facts that were very appealing to me. along with the facts i thought it was cool to see how the actors and actresses got the part and where they were and what they were doing before becoming cast members of the play RENT. this show is a pivotal production because it is a controversial topic and was never even thought of being put onstage.

i'm really excited for RENT! like you said, rent talks about many topics that have never been dealt with on stage. its gonna be really interesting to see how the audience reacts to all the controversity.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see RENT. You are certainly right about RENT being so controversial. I think those topics that are not usually put on stage might be something that makes it such a good show. There is nothing else like it. I like the website you found. It was interesting to read and I learned some new information about the actors. I think it's pretty interesting that some of the actors had not even wanted to try out for RENT at first.
ReplyDeleteKaley,
ReplyDeleteRENT is actually based upon a much older opera titled La Boehme, which tells a similar story about a group of gypsies dying of syphilis. What makes RENT so important in terms of musical theatre is not the content, but the presentation. Yes, HIV was not a hot topic for musicals, but Larson's biggest achievement with RENT was that he modernized the American musical.
