Responsive Posts (Week 5)

Austin!

yah we did have the same source. it really was a great source. the lighting career fits you well. it is very interesting and complicated i bet. special effects are really cool and are sometimes what makes the play great.

&

Larissa,

you picked acting which is very smart. actually went to tampa and took acting classes. it is a ot of hard work to actually be successfully like you said. its getting started that is difficult. i learned so much from tampa and i always try to put it onto the stage. good luck. you are fabulous. keep up the work.

Week 5---

http://library.thinkquest.org/21722/careers.html

hah, so hopefully no one else uses this website. it was actually the first one that came up but i also believe it is a really good resource. it pretty much breaks down different theater careers all into words that make it very easy to understand. short and simple. costume design actually appeals to me. i enjoy choosing clothing and working with it. i have had some expierence with costume last year but not as much this year. costume design requires alot of things that are harder than most people think. the steps that i would need to take to pursue in this field is to learn how to sew. i really need to i just havent made the time to :(

Week 5--

okayokayokay! so RENT..! awesome. spectacular. amazing. i dont even know what else to say! the play covers it all..drama, laughter, sadness, illness, and celebration. i can definitely see why it is a pivotal production, just because it does bring up the issue of aids and sex. i actually saw the movie and didn't care for it. i feel like it was meant to be a stage play and not turned into a movie. the play was so much better although i was sad that the singers didn't hit some of the really cool notes in the play as they did in the movie and soundtrack. yes, i believe the show did adequately convey its message. live your life each day to its fullest.

Week 5-

http://www.thefreelibrary.com/Rent+gets+real:+as+the+pansexual,+AIDS-inflected+Broadway+sensation...-a0140054558

wow, so this website was definitely interesting. this is a website that at the bottom gave facts that were very appealing to me. along with the facts i thought it was cool to see how the actors and actresses got the part and where they were and what they were doing before becoming cast members of the play RENT. this show is a pivotal production because it is a controversial topic and was never even thought of being put onstage.

Responsive Posts (Week 4)

Marie,

so i decided to write about your blog since your a bride also and i agreed with everything you said. even though i responded to you last week..i hope that's okay(:

yah, i like that we are wearing those hats for Keep 'Em Guessin'. i think that dance should look cool. anddddd i agree with the paragraph that you wrote on the black leggings under the kimonos. it is unnecessary in my opinion also. it will be very hot under the lights since leggings are meant to keep you warm. lol.

speaking of sarah's wig..im still not sure what we are doing about our hair..so that will be interesting to find out.

&&

Clark,

so what you wrote about your costume was similar to what i wrote about mine. i feel like it will help with being your character and keep you in that mindset. also, i did see your costume. haha. good luck with that. i will help you if help is needed because i feel bad about how many buttons you have(:

Week 4---

well, at first i was a little worried of what costumes we would be put in for the production. now, i have seen most of my costumes and i am looking forward to see what my outfit looks like overall. i feel that it will fit my character really well. along with the makeup. we haven't really discussed though what we are doing makeup wise and i hope the best for that : /

anyways, the only thing i dislike about my costume is the fact that we are supposed to wear black leggings down to our ankles? im not sure why..lol. some of us have quick changes and i know it takes me a while to put on and take off leggings over tights which we already have on..but over all, i really feel that being in costume and makeup really will bring out my character. im not kaley anymore..im a bride in china.

Week 4--

http://www.playhousesquare.com/bbuzz/wicked/d-fun.html

this is my favorite play and makeup definitely plays a major role in the production. i thought that this site was really cool. i think makeup will also play a big role in our production since we are in ancient china. the brides have to be wearing the white face makeup and the girls that are being soldiers im sure will have special makeup to make them look manlier. also, the grandma, mother, and father should look older also by shadowing and highlighting. i actually did learn about some new things about makeup elements but i feel that they would not be useful in our show.

Week 4-

when i thought about all the different pieces of theater coming together to make one production happen i thought of manyyy different things. in the two plays we have seen, well for me one, i feel that in stomp the tech and the props came together and synthesized. in our production i feel that all of the elements are slowly coming together. i feel that we really don't have many problem areas just some things need to be tweaked to try to make it perfect. if one of the elements was missing though, it would loose the importance of that one element. each element i believe is just as important as the other.

Responsive Posts (Week 3)

Marie,

i agree with what you wrote about the technical part of theater, and what you said about it being over looked, but without it, the show could not be performed. also you seemed to think of many of the things i did when it came to the technology. great minds think alike (:

&

Kia,

what you wrote about sound effects was awesome. i also agree that we will be using many noises or sound effects for the avalanches, running, marching, war crys and other sounds to add to the dramatic effect. and for some scene changes i noticed the different sounds being used.

haha. and nice word usage of the word "thus".

Week 3---

well, seeing as i wasnt there to see peter pan on friday i cant really write a post on it. but, im sure that the technical aspects of the play were amazing. im pretty sure tinker bell had to fly so they would have needed some special equipment to do that. compared to my other post im sure the costuming must have been unique and accurate for the play, which would be a connection to my writing about costumes.

Week 3--

i chose costume for my form of technical theater. it is the overall appearance of a character or performer. this usually involves researching, designing and building the actual items needed. the costume design must fit the mood and the time period of the play. when starting out, the designs are first sketched out, and approved then either draped on a form or a pattern drafted. Along with the actual clothing, the costume may require accessories such as footwear, hats and head dresses for the actors to wear, but it may also include designing masks, makeup, wigs, underwear or other unusual specialty items. from head to toe everything is being looked at. the resource honestly provide any new information for me and does not contradict my own ideas about this technology. i could see this certain technology being applied in every production.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Costume_design

Week 3-

my impression of the technical side of theater is that it is very important. sometimes most people over look the details and how it really does make a difference. theatrical technology will play a part in our production of Mulan by being a way of showing the audience the time period and location of where the play is set. theatrical technology also includes the lighting and sound. in order for all of the audience to hear our singing a microphone is required, along with the lights that is necessary for us to be seen. theatrical technology is actually something i would like to learn about. i think it would be cool to learn how to work lighting to create the different effects to set the mood.

Responsive Posts (Week 2)

Larissa,

your reaction to stomp was just like me. haha. you cracked me up with the one part in your post..simply a last minute clean up (or at least that's what I was thinking). funny. anyways...i agree i was also thinking about the choreography. and your also right that it showed us the difference between them and their "characters".
lol.
i was a little mad when they told us to leave also. everyone still had so many questions and i wanted answers(:

&&&&&

Kristen,

i also liked what you wrote that the performers could keep the audience entertained without saying a word. there was never a point in the play where i was bored or my attention was not toward the stage. you are right the whole experience of seeing stomp was exhilarating! and that is good that you say they put a lot of themselves onstage when they perform and that they were not afraid of looking silly. that is something that i am over coming slowly every time i get onstage. everybody should just let go because it is not you on stage it is your character.

Week 2---

wow. so where to begin with stomp? i thought it was really great. what i liked best about the show was that it was so creative. like who thought to use those different objects to create beats and rhythms that go together to make such cool musical sounds. lol. the one thing that did kind of bother me was that every time the performers did something people would clap. and the thing is, if your clapping they may not be done with what they were doing and therefore you miss some of the cool sounds that aren't heard due to the applauding. my reaction to meeting the performers was different than i expected. i figured that they would have much different lives than lives like ours but they seem to do the same things as well as eat the same things. they apparently do not even have to be in that good of shape physically. i have to say truthfully that i did not see any elements of tradition of Greek or Kabuki theater in the play because i was so into watching them make the noises and movements that i wasn't even thinking about what i was going to say in my blog(: anyways, i did learn something though that would apply to the production of mulan. just to be big with your movements and your character because you could be funny to the audience without you even doing anything..just being your character, not even saying a word!

Week 2--

http://academic.reed.edu/humanities/110tech/Theater.html#Theaters

here is a cool website about the Greek theater. the Greek theater and the Kabuki theater are very different in many ways. first of all, the Greek theater is usually known for their tragedies and comedies which were always performed in outdoor theaters. while the kabuki theater has a rotating stage and has several gadgets like trapdoors and a footbridge that leads through the audience. now with my new knowledge about the Greek theater, i think i would like it way better than Kabuki theater.

this is a nice diagram of the Greek theater also : https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh99YE_5t178FsainvrKUDvcfAKBWRIfjXTTeK8cUy9aimKuXgtCu8P8mpFRdVghbN9gU2tbG1p6fu6qxf5QlusePRrSTkxRajoofB4eVtB7etzCGbpla528y7ylLUXI3BUALCcrT3zX4g/s1600-h/theaterdiagram.jpg

(:

Week 2-

http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2090.html

this website here gives the basic information on Kabuki theater. yes, it is different than i thought. truthfully i do not think that i would have liked to attend Kabuki in ancient Japan because i think it would be boring. i do not care much for historical events and old fashion language. i also think it would be distracting from the mood of the play for the audience to shout the name of their favorite actor just in the right moment during short pauses.

Responsive Posts (Week 1)

Kia, wow. your post about musical theater is exactly how i feel. i agree with what you wrote, you just put it into better words than i did in my post! the site you used was wikipedia though. lol. i thought that was an unreliable resource but i guess the information was still good. it did actually show what musical theater is all about and what it consists of. this summer is going to be good. keep up the work with your singing Captian! (:

Now Clark, you had a good post just as well as Kia did. your sources were the same and i got the same information out of it. you have an awesome voice kid you just need to be louder like everyone keeps telling you! good luck with your character too, that should be fun.

-Kaley

Week 1---

http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art29756.asp

this is a good website about the history and ballad of Fa Mulan. the Chinese ballad dates to the fifth century A.D. and has been popular throughout the centuries. it is the imaginings of Fa Mu Lan’s experiences. the story has been retold and reinterpreted by many authors for many audiences. it is popular as a children’s story because it is a tale of empowerment and gender surprise.

Week 1--

http://www.musicals101.com/

this website gives you all information on different aspects of the theater. it made me think of how much work is put into making a musical and how everything must come together to work as one. the theater is a place to escape and be someone who you really aren't and take a character and put your own style into it. like mrs. tracy said, its just a character on a blank piece of paper and you can put your own thoughts and ideas into it. this honestly did not change my perceptions about musical theater because i have only experienced this type of genre. i have never been in a play where no singing was involved. but that is what makes it fun in my point of view!

Week 1-

Hey, I’m Kaley! I am fourteen and I love being young. I'll be a sophomore at SHS after this summer. I hope that this course will make me a better actress and singer. Auditions did make me somewhat nervous, but its natural and happens to everyone. I am sort of shy at first but then once I have been around people long enough I become a little more open. I feel that my technical assignment is to come out of my comfort zone and to be more like my unique character. I have been onstage many times before and I feel like this time it will be a better experience. Every time I am onstage it brings me something new.
(:
